Think big
I had a lechure on these two words that a found exlremly intresting. The point was that as desigers we should push ourselfs not just to think about the ussuall but to expand our thoughts and see the bigger pictuer. I found that the hole two hour leachure its self was based on two words helped get this point across. So, insted of concetrating on desinging a chair, just a chair for the sake of a nice peice of furnishings how eles can we expand it. When i leave university I hope to go into fashion. Up till now all I had thught about was desing cloths that were intresting and creative, fashionable and exciting. Now however am starting to think about other things, yes i still want to be a fashion desiner but how can I do other things. Could I deigen my clothing, how its shiped, how its packeged, how its sold, how its made,to help improve lots of diffrent things. Such as peoples working conditions, povertly, green house effect. I think this is a small start in the thinking big prosses and theres much more that I could envestigat, but perhapes relsiing my big iders are not big enought is a setup forward to thinking big.
The tipping point
I was asked to read the tiping point before returing to second year, and as always i did not relish the thought of reading somthing i hadnt picked(i am a selfconfessed fussy reader). Once i got started i found this a extreamly intresting and insitfull book. It has chaged the way i think about alot of things including not juging book before i read them. There are a lot of facts and stirngs of information you have to keep hold of to carry on understanding the book, I sometimes found this a bit difficualt. However I enjoyed the book very much and it has made me think about how to go about texile practuses and getting your self noitced during and after universtiy. The part that most intrested me was The law of the few: Conectors,Mavens and Salesmen. I think I founf this so intresting because I could slot everone I know(family, friends, colleges and acqueintes) happly into one of these carragores. Some how ever did seem to fit in to two(showoffs). What I found paticualy intresting was how powerfull and inffulental each one was sepratly and how thay work to gether and offten dont realize exactly how big a change there inshating. Thay are simply trying to be helpful and bang thay renvent a dieng brand.
I have to appolgys I am having a tuff time even wrighting on my blog just now it seem to be running very slow. It is not letting me load my mind map, I will recuest help from myvflatmates(two mavens and two connectors) and hopfully get this sorted very soon.

Well I have to say the blog scares me a little, but we will give it a try.
First I have a disconcerting feeling that the internet is trying to take over my life. For example; currently every night since the internet has been installed in the flat we have sat in the living room, laptops on knees and ”surfed” the web. Now while this in itself is not necessarily a bad thing, the fact that we are talking to each other through chat rooms and facebook is a bit more worrying. It can’t be denied that the internet does have its advantages but when it begins to interfere with human contact and communication this can start to cause concern. I am also starting to wonder if the internet is addictive, I haven’t heard about this addiction yet but I’m certain now that it exists. Maybe an I.A.A (Internet Addicts Anonymous) help group should be started. Everything in my life seems now to revolve around the internet. How does something go from relatively unknow to integral to almost all things?I am really looking forward to my lecture tommorow, that may have something to do with the fact that I don’t want to fall asleep in it. I enjoyed last week’s and having to think as the lecturer was talking to us rather than at us, about things that can much too easily flow straight over your head or out it. When lots of information is just said out loud for an hour or more even with coherent notes how often do you remember it properly? Also the Starburst might have helped, getting people up and involved also makes it a lot more interesting.

the tipping point in relation to design
In our group we discussed how the issuses in the Tipping Point related to design and how design could solve or help these issuses. We discussed two main issuses - crime and disease. A lot of interesting issuses and ideas arose from these topics. The idea I chose to take further was voice recognition in cars to prevent theft. I looked into the voice recognition sotware and designing how it would work, and the aesthetics of it. I thought this was a good ide as you could register the main driver in the showroom and then only he or she could add drivers; the basic principle being that. I also considered the fact that you may still have to have keys for the main door as people may not want to use voice recognition out on the street to open the door. Also, the possibility of having a two password system - one to change the password and add dirvers and one to start the car. Each driver could possibly use their name to start the car.
Another idea I particularly like but did not research fully was soap dispensers in hospitals, designing them to be more attractive to use and possibly ones down at childrens level. Also, possibly of conecting the hand dispensers to doors and making the hand dispensers the door acivation system.
